Continuing the trend of shops opening a second outpost in Uptown Yonge, Squint Eyewear is the latest Oakville expat to join the fray.
Squint showcases “artisanal” eyewear in open cases and shelves that encourage browsing and fitting. Squint’s team curates frames from mostly European and American designers for their trend-setting, and sometimes daring, style. Their brands—like Mykita, Chrome Hearts, and Lindberg—design and often manufacture their own eyewear, and are unique to Squint in the area. Frames start at $275: less than a designer purse, but enough that you know you’re making a good investment.
In the store, “Squinters” help suggest frames based on style and fit, can arrange eye exams in the store, and can prepare drinks from the espresso bar. If it seems like Squint is asking you to sit and stay a while, it’s because they are: choosing eyewear should feel unhurried and relaxed, and the minimum-leaning boutique design draws on Parisian cafes and mid-century modern furniture to make it feel like part of the community. The Uptown Yonge store includes a jellybean-bright children’s section as well, ensuring younger eyes are framed with the same style as grown up ones.
After your first visit to Squint, you’ll likely be back to outfit the rest of the family with equally style-forward eyewear—or maybe just stop in for a cappuccino.
